Good knights in Calgary

Members of Street Church in Calgary rented colourful medieval costumes, planning to take part in the Calgary Stampede parade in July.

However, Stampede officials got a court injunction banning them from the parade, because they had given out tracts at last year’s parade. Instead, church members dressed up in their costumes and staged demonstrations at separate times in downtown Calgary and outside the Stampede. They sang, waved flags, staged sword fights for people to watch, talked with tourists, and handed out tracts and protest sheets. The church has suggested that the problems which plagued this year’s Stampede — including bad weather and low attendance — may have been God’s judgment on the organizers for their opposition to the gospel.
