Calgary Street Church leader goes on trial

A trial is underway for the vocal leader of Calgary’s Street Church.

Roughly 30 people gathered on the steps of the Calgary Courts Centre on Wednesday and waved Canadian flags as they sang the national anthem and Amazing Grace.

They were there to show support for Artur Pawlowski, who was charged in February with obstruction, disturbing the peace and trespassing after a complaint was made about a street church gathering.

Pawlowski argues his right to peacefully gather with his friends is protected under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Six days have been set aside for his trial.
