The City of Calgary is furthering its attempt to place an injunction against Street Church. The province has now stepped in by sending its Attourney General into the fray. This battle will set precident on fundamental rights and freedoms. Please Continue to Pray for us. The City of Calgary is furthering its attempt to place an injunction against Street Church.
The City of Calgary has indicated repeatedly in the news that Street Church needs to obey the law. There are a couple of problems with this statement. The first problem is that the law being referred to, Calgary bylaws, are laws which being applied in the manner that they are with Street Church, go against charter protected rights and freedoms. Another problem is that there is clear prejudice against Street Church since other organizations like the Drop-In Centre have been allowed to carry on serving the poor in the same fashion as Street Church without concern of government interference. There is a clear demonstration of prejudice which has nothing to do with the originally stated cause of noise or amplification but rather the preaching of the Gospel.
Last Friday, the legal council for Street Church Ministries received notice that the province has now stepped in by sending its Attourney General into the fray. The Attourney General represents an even higher level of Government coming against Street Church Ministries in its efforts to provide for the needs of the poor.
This battle will set precident on fundamental rights and freedoms.
